Weekly Message–October 14-18, 2019

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your weekly message for the week of October 14. I hope that everyone had a relaxing, enjoyable break and all students are ready to return to learning tomorrow morning!

Wednesday, October 16 is an Early Release Day and school will be dismissed at 1:00 p.m.  Please note that this is one hour earlier than our normal early release schedule. Please make the necessary transportation arrangements.

On October 14, DPS will convene for a District Calendar Engagement event at SDC from 6:00-7:00pm. This event will provide an opportunity for attendees to understand calendar guidelines, view current drafts for the next two school years, and provide feedback that will be considered prior to sending calendar drafts to schools for staff votes. Please attend this event to provide your input on these calendar drafts. I served on the calendar committee and will be there to assist with answering questions. I’d love to see our SCS community represented.

We will be having the PSAT on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 for all 11th grade students who signed up. Students should see Dr. Tuck Thomas for a copy of the bulletin in preparation for the exam.

This week, on Thursday, we will hold our first earthquake drill. This is a district-wide drill and we will prepare students prior to the drill. If you have any questions about of our drills, please contact Mr. Ferguson.

There is a not to miss event this Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. It’s our next PTSA Healthy Tasting Night where our partner chef has created an incredible recipe that attendees will get to prepare and then eat! If you’ve attended previous Healthy Tasting Nights, I don’t have to convince you to come, but if you haven’t this is your chance to attend with your family and friends, prepare a recipe together using fresh local items, and have an awesome time!  We look forward to seeing you Thursday at 6:00 in the SCS Cafeteria.

Report cards will come home with students Friday, October 18. Remember to review all contents of the report card envelope and return the envelope signed.

Senior parents: we are excited to invite you to attend our College Night October 22, 2019 from 5:30-6:30pm.  We will have staff on hand to help your student with college applications, completing the FAFSA, and the Residency Determination Application.  We will have representatives from the Emily K Center Game Plan: College program to help students with the application and essay process.  We will have an interpreter available. Seniors should bring their laptops to this event.  If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Settle.

One of the activities in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month is our Annual Spanish Spelling Bee Wednesday, October 23- at 5:30 p.m in SCS Gym. You are invited to join us and support our students!

All 10th grade students will take the PreACT on Thursday, October, 24, 2019.

The deadline to order cardigans and windbreakers has been extended until October 31st.

Carpool parents, now that we are back in session, please remember to stay in line and follow the directions given by the staff on duty.

We still need parent volunteers for our annual SCS Fall Carnival November 3 from 2:00 – 5:00 . If you are available, please contact PTSA at scs4ptsa@gmail.com.

Reminder that the PTSA Reflections entries are due November 12. Information was sent home with students prior to break.
