Weekly Message–August 5-9, 2019

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your weekly message for the week of August 5.

Your student received a copy of the Durham Public Schools Student/Family Handbook 2019-20 in homeroom the first week of school.  After reviewing the handbook, please sign the Verification of Receipt and Review form with your child.  The form should be returned to your child’s homeroom teacher.

Plan to join us for Curriculum Night and General PTSA meeting Thursday, August 8 at 6:00 p.m. The PTSA meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. and immediately following, you will have the opportunity to follow your child’s schedule and hear about the exciting things the teachers have planned for the year.  The annual AIG meeting for parents will be held at 5:30 p.m.

Are you ready to get your roll on, better yet, are you ready to get your skate on? Well on Friday, August 9 from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m., meet YMA at Wheels Skate Park for the first Skate Wars of the year. This event is open to all your family and friends. The cost is only $7. Middle schoolers—the class that shows up with the most students, family & friends will get into the back to school dance for $2.00.  See Coach Barnes for more information.

Our PTSA Family Cookout will be held at SCS Saturday, August 10, Noon – 2:00 p.m. Look for fliers to come home soon and also check out the PTSA social media sites.

There is a mandatory Senior Parent Meeting Monday, August 12, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.  Dinner will be provided.

Attention middle school: Friday, August 16 afterschool, Jr. YMA will host a Back 2 School Dance until 6:30 p.m. The cost of the dance is $5 and refreshments will be sold. You will be able to pay in advance or at the door. Please see Coach Barnes or Mr. Marshall for more information.

Attention High School Parents, all students enrolled in an AP class need to have a completed fee waiver form on file.  These were given to our child by his/her AP teacher the first week of school.  These must be returned to Dr. Tuck Thomas by August 12th.  If your child will be taking the PSAT, SAT or ACT at any point this school year and will need a fee waiver, forms are available in the student services area.

Attention all carpool drivers:  The carpool drop-off area begins at the sidewalk.  In an effort to keep carpool moving smoothly and to reduce congestion on the roads near the school, students should exit on the right side of your vehicle as soon as you pull up to the sidewalk in front of the school.  You do not need to wait until you get to the front door.  Students should never be dropped off in the parking lot.  If your child requires assistance exiting the vehicle due to a health issue, kindly inform the staff on duty.  Additionally, please follow the directions given by the staff on duty.  The safety of our students and staff are depending on you to be attentive while in the carpool line.

Parents and students, previews of the SCS Cardigan and windbreakers are available on the SCS website.  We will begin taking orders soon and more information is forthcoming.

Were you featured on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook???  You won’t know unless you follow or like us? Check us out on social media to see if you were caught doing something aMazing and to stay on top of all the SCS happenings!

Have a great evening from everyone at SCS where we practice the 4 C’s—Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Community.
