Now is the time to do so!  Also if you are bringing a guest from outside of SCS, you need to pick up a Guest Form from Ms. Street, Coach Barnes or the front office. The deadline for Guest Forms is Friday and the last day is May 2 to purchase a ticket.

Prom is Saturday, May 4 from 7:30 – 11:30 p.m. The cost is $65 per person and $120 per couple. If you are in need of financial assistance, please let us know.

SCSFest & General PTSA Meeting

Join us Thursday, April 25 at 5:30 for SCSFest and General PTSA meeting. SCSFest is our annual event where student work from all of our creative electives is featured. This is a not-to-miss event.  The focus of the General PTSA meeting will be to elect officers for the next school year.

AP Exam Review Sessions

Durham Public Schools is offering AP Exam review sessions on April 27th at CMA (City of Medicine Academy). Sessions are 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. and 10:40 a.m. – 12:40 p.m., pre-registration required. Please check the high school resource wall for registration information.

2nd Tasting Event

Event will be held April 30 @ 6:00 p.m. The first tasting event was a big success. If you missed it, you certainly do not want to miss this one! Attend with your family and produce the featured partner chef creation! Look out for an automated call from our PTSA President Ms. Tanisha Davis with more information about this event.

AP Exams

Advanced Placement (AP) Exams for students enrolled in those courses will begin the first week in May. Once finalized, students will be notified and dates will be posted on our website. Teachers will continue to prepare students for these exams up until their exam date.

ACT Score Reports

Parents of 11th grade students.  ACT score reports were sent home with your child.  If your child was absent, he/she should see Ms. Tuck Thomas to receive his/her score report on Monday.  Students are encouraged to create their ACT accounts so that they can see detailed results and information on how they can increase their test score.

Proctors Needed

Parents, testing season is right around the corner and that means that we need volunteers to help proctor.  Our heaviest days will be on Friday, May 24th, Tuesday, May 28th, Wednesday, May 29th, and Thursday, May 30th. Please contact Mr. Boston in the main office if you are able to assist. We’d love for you to tell others to contact us if they’re able to help out.

AP Course Information

There are exciting changes coming to Advanced Placement courses.  Ms. Tuck Thomas will be holding a session this month for rising 10th -12th grade students.  Students are invited to learn more about how they can successfully take AP courses while in high school, earn college credit, and save money on tuition.  Students should listen attentively to the announcements to find out when and where these sessions will be held.  Information has been posted on the AIG website and under the Advanced Placement tab.

Prom Tickets on Sale

Prom is right around the corner. Jr./Sr. Prom tickets are here, so if you purchased one pick it up from Ms. Street. If you need to purchase one, see Coach Barnes or Ms. Street. They are $65 for one and $120 for two.

Senior Signing Day

Senior parents, family and friends are invited to attend our 2nd Annual Senior Signing Day where we will recognize seniors and their postsecondary plans. This event will be held May 3 at 2:00 p.m.

On Monday April 15th at 7pm, YMA will be getting honored with a proclamation by the Durham City Council.  In just 5 years, YMA has been recognized for all of their work in the Durham community and surrounding areas by President Obama and Governor Cooper to name a few.  Now, every April 15th will be known as the “Young Male Achievers Day of Service & Scholarship”.  We want all of our friends, family and supporters to fill the city council chamber.

Montreal & Quebec Trip

The Spring Break Trip for 2020 will visit Montreal and Quebec. To answer all your questions, Ms. Sims will host another enrollment meeting MONDAY, APRIL 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the Cybrary to discuss our itinerary, what’s included, and the price.

There is limited space on this trip, and spots will be filled up on a first-come, first-served basis. Please attend the meeting in order so all enrollment questions about the tour can be answered directly and quickly by Ms. Sims.

 

Honor Roll Breakfast

Honor Roll Breakfast—April 16 (Middle School @ 9:15, High School @ 10:30)

Invitations will go home with students tomorrow. Students will be recognized by quarter for 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarters, so students who have earned all A’s or all A’s and B’s in any given quarter are invited to attend. Parents are welcome to attend.

 

No School Friday

Keep in mind that there is no school Friday, April 19. Thursday, April 18 is a normal school day.

Keep our Earth healthy! Students & staff are reminded to recycle & terra-cycle using the available bins in the front lobby and the cafeteria. Students remember to collect your items from lunch and recycle them too! Some example items for collection are:

Weekly Message–April 8-12, 2019

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your weekly message for the week of April 8.

Welcome Back to Everyone for what we know is going to be a fabulous Quarter 4. This quarter always goes by really quickly because it is full of activity. So please pay attention to all of the important dates, keep on top of your schoolwork, and let’s finish strong!

 

Spirit Week

This week is Spirit Week at SCS, presented by our High School Student Council. I want to remind students that the dress code is in effect for all days. Monday is Pajama Day. Tuesday is College Day. Wednesday is Wacky Tacky Day. Thursday is 90’s Day. And Friday is School Spirit Day. Please listen to announcements for details about each day.

 

National Assistant Principals Week

This week has been declared National Assistant Principals week to honor and recognize the contributions of assistant principals to the success of students in schools. Please take a moment this week to thank our assistant principals—Mr. Ferguson, Dr. Dixon, and Mr. Richardson—for their hard work and dedication at SCS.

 

Montreal & Quebec Trip

Imagine your child or you sampling delicious maple syrup at the Sugar Shack, walking the streets of old Montreal, and marveling at Montmorency Falls.  Imagine doing this on a once in a lifetime trip to Montreal and Quebec in 2020.

 

To answer all your questions, Ms. Sims will be hosting an enrollment meeting on MONDAY, APRIL 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Cybrary to discuss our itinerary, what’s included, and the price.

 

There is limited space on this trip, and spots will be filled up on a first-come, first-served basis Please attend the meeting in order so all enrollment questions about the tour can be answered directly and quickly by Ms. Sims.

 

Cap & Gown Portraits for Seniors

Cap & Gown Portraits for Seniors will be taken on Thursday, April 11th.  This will be the only session provided.  There will not be any senior make-ups.  Proofs or Portrait Packages will be sent home in a few weeks with all the information needed to place your order.  Contact Ms. Bridges if you have any questions.

 

Durham Tech Senior Day

Students attending Durham Tech in the fall please consider attending Senior Day on Tuesday, April 9, 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. to complete your connect session, meet with academic advisor/financial aid, and register for classes.

Proctors Needed

Parents, testing season is right around the corner and that means that we need volunteers to help proctor.  Our heaviest days will be on Friday, May 24th, Tuesday, May 28th, Wednesday, May 29th, and Thursday, May 30th. Please contact Mr. Boston in the main office if you are able to assist. We’d love for you to tell others to contact us if they’re able to help out.

 

AP Course Information

Attention, Parents. Are you interested in knowing how you can save money when you send your child to college? Mrs. Tuck Thomas will be holding information sessions with current 9th through 11th grade students during lunch this month. These sessions are for students who are interested in taking an AP course beginning with the 2019-2020 school year. Sessions will be announced during daily announcements and students will need to sign up to attend. Mrs. Tuck Thomas will post information from the sessions on her AIG website at the end of this month.

 

Prom Tickets on Sale

Prom is right around the corner. Jr./Sr. Prom tickets are here, so if you purchased one pick it up from Ms. Street. If you need to purchase one, see Coach Barnes or Ms. Street. They are $65 for one and $120 for two.

 

Senior Signing Day

Senior parents, family and friends are invited to attend our 2nd Annual Senior Signing Day where we will recognize seniors and their postsecondary plans. This event will be held May 3 at 2:00 p.m.

 

Emily K College Expo

The Game Plan: College Team will be hosting a College Expo on Saturday, April 20, 2019. Over 50 colleges and universities from all across the United States will be present for students and/or parents to visit and talk to. They will also be offering a variety of workshops for students to experience. Please visit Facebook or Ms. Price’s blog to get the link to register.
