Weekly Message–October 7-11, 2019

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your weekly message for the week of October 7. Don’t worry, you still have another week of intersession left, but there are some important upcoming events and I wanted to give you as much notice as possible.

Individual score reports for Math EOG’s and EOC’s will be sent home with students with report cards. Student scores from 5th and 8th grade will be mailed to your home.

The second annual Durham Bowls food festival, an event that brings local chefs and school nutrition managers together in teams to create, test, and present a delicious meal-in-a-bowl concept for Durham Public School nutrition programs. Everyone is invited to join us at a tasting event at the Scrap Exchange Saturday, October 12 from 3:00 to 6:00p.m. for samples of the new dishes, as well as music, art, cooking demos, and more. https://www.durhambowls.org

On October 14, DPS will convene for a District Calendar Engagement event at SDC from 6:00-7:00pm. This event will provide an opportunity for attendees to understand calendar guidelines, view current drafts for the next two school years, and provide feedback that will be considered prior to sending calendar drafts to schools for staff votes. Please attend this event to provide your input on these calendar drafts. I served on the calendar committee and will be there to assist with answering questions. I’d love to see our SCS community represented.

I’d like to remind you that we conduct several safety drills throughout the school year. These include lock-down drills, fire drills, tornado drills, and for the first time this year, an earthquake drill. Most of these drills are not announced in advance and prepare us to respond quickly and appropriately in the event of an emergency. The earthquake drill will be held October 17, and we will prepare students for this drill when we return after the break. If you have any questions about of our drills, please contact Mr. Ferguson.

We still need parent volunteers for our annual SCS Fall Carnival November 3 from 2:00 – 5:00 . If you are available, please contact PTSA at scs4ptsa@gmail.com.

Reminder that the PTSA Reflections entries are due November 12. Information was sent home with students prior to break. This is an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their talents in dance, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts. The theme this year is “Look Within”. Let’s have lots of submissions from SCS!

Have a great remainder of the intersession break. I’ll send another message next Sunday night and we’ll see all students back Monday, October 14.
