Weekly Message–September 16-20, 2019

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your weekly message for the week of September 16.

*Individual score reports for Math EOG’s and EOC’s will be sent home with students with report cards in October. Student scores from 5th and 8th grade will be mailed to your home.

*Mark your calendars for the September Early Release Day on the 18th. School will be dismissed at 2:00 p.m.

*Attention all seniors!  A representative from Fayetteville State University admissions will be on campus Friday, September 20 from 1-1:45 in the student lounge.  If you have any questions please see Mrs. Settle.

*I’d like to remind you that we conduct several safety drills throughout the school year. These include lock-down drills, fire drills, tornado drills, and for the first time this year, an earthquake drill. Most of these drills are not announced in advance and prepare us to respond quickly and appropriately in the event of an emergency. If you have any questions about of our drills, please contact Mr. Ferguson.

*The intersession break is almost here! Intersession runs September 23 – October 11. School resumes October 14. The office will be open during our normal office hours, but teachers will be on their intersession break and will not be available. Please make sure that all assignments are turned in by the end of the quarter, and you make all correspondence to teachers prior to the break beginning.

 

*We are happy to welcome Christina Villegas to our SCS team.  She will join us as the Emily K college advisor for all high school students.  She will be on campus at least once a week and will also be meeting with students in the classrooms to help with college prep starting in the 9th grade.  If any student or parent would like to meet with Ms. Villegas please contact Mrs. Settle to schedule an appointment.

During their Open House event, students can participate in hands-on demonstrations, visit research labs to find out what computing is all about and talk with current students about why they chose computer science at Carolina. The event is happening Saturday, September 14 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Those students who participate are encouraged to take higher-level math courses in high school. You must register online for this event Please see Ms. Williams in room 401 for details.

UNC-Chapel Hill’s Computer Science department invites middle and high school students to visit and experience the exciting world of computer science. During their Open House event, students can participate in hands-on demonstrations, visit research labs to find out what computing is all about and talk with current students about why they chose computer science at Carolina. The event is happening Saturday, September 14 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Those students who participate are encouraged to take higher-level math courses in high school. Society of Hispanic Professionals is holding a FREE educational fair for Hispanic students and their parents on 9/14/19 from 8:30am-1:30pm.  Families have the opportunity to gain information about the admissions process and how to pay for college.  The event will be held on the campus of  NCCU at Mary Townes Science Building.

Weekly Message–September 9-13, 2019

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your weekly message for the week of September 9.

Come One! Come All! On September 12 from 6:00-7:30, SCS will be hosting its first Literacy Night! This is an opportunity for families and friends to come and experience how literacy and learning go beyond the textbook and classroom. There will be activities, games, and learning sessions. Come join us, and experience how literacy is not only about books and reading. We will also hold a General PTSA meeting during this event.

Following the Literacy Night, if you’d like more information about our school report card grade and the recent state data release, please join us at 7:30 p.m. in the Cybrary to discuss the data.

Starting September 12th we will have a permanent College Advisor from the Emily K Center here at SCS.  Christina Villegas will be on campus at least once a week to meet with our students and provide information and resources including how to prepare for college as well as the application process.  Please contact Mrs. Settle if you have any questions.

Individual score reports for Math EOG’s and EOC’s will be sent home with students with report cards in October. Student scores from 5th and 8th grade will be mailed to your home.

Mark your calendars for the September Early Release Day on the 18th. School will be dismissed at 2:00 p.m.
