*The N.C. Society of Hispanic Professionals is holding a FREE educational fair for Hispanic students and their parents on 9/14/19 from 8:30am-1:30pm.  Families have the opportunity to gain information about the admissions process and how to pay for college.  The event will be held on the campus of  NCCU at Mary Townes Science Building.

*The Durham College Fair will be held September 29th fron 1pm-3pm at the Durham Convention Center.  Please visit gotocollegefairs.com for registration information.

 

Recurring Announcements for Students

Would you like to donate books that you no longer use for school? Come to our school to donate books that you no longer use and exchange them for new books! Bring them to Ms. Soriano’s class. 1st Hispanic Heritage Book Fair at the SCS Literacy Night! Writers will come sign the books!

Ethics Bowl! Come to Ethics Bowl this week. Thursday afterschool until 5:15. Meet in Ms. Stefan’s room.

Come One! Come All! On September 12th from 6:00-7:30, SCS will be hosting its first Literacy Night! This is an opportunity for families and friends to come and experience how literacy and learning goes beyond the textbook and classroom. There will be activities, games, and learning sessions. Come join us, and experience how literacy is not only about books and reading.

High School Basketball Club is officially back for high school. The club will meet every Tuesday until 5:30 p.m.

Karaoke Friday is back this week & the theme is the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

Very important announcement—Bus #182 is now Bus #24 at the Southern Hub Stop. This is until the end of the school year!

You may still order pictures but you will now have to pay online. There are picture envelopes in the office with directions.

The Nasher Teen Council 2019-2020 application for all high school teens interested in the arts and museum space is now open. See Ms. Settle’s website for application link. The application must be complete by September 6.

Attention Aviation Club members: Please take your field trip permission forms home for approval and return to Ms. Neville ASAP.

Zumba class is offered to all community at SCS! See you on TUESDAYS at 4:10 p.m at SCS Small Auditorium! You don’t need to dance, you do as you can, just be sure that you have fun.

Students, teachers and parents are invited to participate! Don’t miss the Zumba class!

Any student interested in expanding their knowledge and talents in songwriting, poetry, rap, screenwriting, or stand-up com to the writing club. Writing club will meet each Monday and Thursday after school until 5:30pm in room 224.

High School Juniors! If you plan to take the PSAT in October here at SCS, you will need to see Dr. Tuck Thomas to sign up. Materials will be ordered only for those who sign up. You must sign up by August 31.

Students, to replace your lost student planner, there is a $5.00 fee. See Ms. Barnes for a replacement. Students please write your name in the planner.

Keep our Earth healthy!  Students and staff are reminded to recycle and terra-cycle using the available bins in the front lobby and the cafeteria. Students remember to collect your items from lunch and recycle them too! Some example items for collection are:

All bottles and caps from mouthwash and deodorant

Aluminum and plastic drink pouches with straws or spouts.

Juniors & Seniors: Prom will be here before you know it! You don’t want to miss out on these superb ticket prices before the first intersession!

Seniors will be $40.00 until September 20.

Juniors will be $55.00 until September 20.

All guests will be $65.00 and all tickets will go up to this price after intersession. See Coach Barnes or Ms. Street for questions.
