Weekly Message–August 26-30, 2019

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your weekly message for the week of August 26.

Parents, it is very important that we have your current contact information on file. If your phone numbers have changed, contact Ms. Fleming, our data manager to update them. In the event of an emergency, we need to be able to reach you. Also we need to have your children’s medical information on file. In the event of a medical emergency, we need to know quickly how best to treat your child. You may update this information with Ms. Fleming. All of your students’ information is confidential.

The PowerSchool Parent Portal is now online and accessible for the 19-20 school year! If you have a returning student to Creative Studies, you can use the same login information you created last year. If your student is new to Creative Studies you will need to set up your Parent Portal account. Parents or guardians who have never created a Parent Portal account are strongly encouraged to do so as this is a very useful tool to monitor your child’s grades, attendance, and assignments, as well as communicate with teachers via email. Parents who have never created a Parent Portal account will need to come to the school in person during normal office hours with a photo ID to pick up the login information and account setup instructions for your child. We will not release this information without a photo ID, and it MUST be a parent/guardian who picks up the login information. Please email our data manager, Ms. Fleming, at jennifer.fleming@dpsnc.net, if you have an existing account and are locked out or have other technical issues.

I’m excited to announce that we have made a recommendation for the Math I position and I will announce a start date after the applicant has been cleared through our Human Resources Department. In the meantime, Mr. Blanchette is serving as the substitute and Dr. Tuck Thomas is supporting him with the content.

Parents and students, previews of the SCS Cardigan and windbreakers are available on the SCS website. Order forms were sent home with progress reports and all orders must be placed by September 20, 2019.

Ms. Sims students will complete their second mile of the semester between Tuesday, August 27 and Thursday, August 29, 2019.  Ensure that your child has all necessary medications, such as inhalers, if needed.  If possible, have your child bring a water bottle to stay hydrated during the activity.  If you have any questions please contact Ms. Sims.

School will be closed Monday, September 2 in observance of the Labor Day Holiday.

Finally, I wanted to let you know that we have all been concerned about some of the news over the last week about incidents of violence in our communities. While these incidents did not involve our school directly, our students and families can be affected even simply by hearing the news. Please reach out to our school counselors if your child needs assistance. We have access to mental health resources to help. We are here to support your child.

Have a great evening from everyone at SCS where we practice the 4 C’s—Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Community.
