Weekly Message–February 4-8, 2019

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your weekly message for the week of February 4.

Parents of 11th grade students, important information about the upcoming ACT was sent home with your child on Friday.  If your child has already taken the ACT and met the qualifying benchmarks, he or she may not need to be assessed again on February 20th.  In order for us to determine if your child has met the benchmarks, a form requesting exception from the ACT this year was included in the packet.  You must complete the form, attach official ACT scores, and return to Ms. Tuck Thomas by February 8, 2019.  No forms will be accepted after February 8, 2019.

Support for Students

In recent weeks we have seen news coverage of incidents which highlighted issues of student safety, security, and equity. While we have not had any specific incidents at SCS, I want to remind all families that we take safety and security very seriously. We encourage our students to report issues to an adult and we do not tolerate bullying or students being unkind to each other. We support every child without exception because at SCS we are family. Please help us to remind our students that our doors are always open and encourage them to continue to communicate with us about things that are going on in their lives. In addition to their classroom teachers and administrators, don’t forget that we have school counselors, Ms. Settle and Ms. Meza-Keuthen, and Mr. Scott, our social worker who are also resources to students and families. Parents, we want to hear from you also. Continue to communicate with us via phone calls or emails and stay up to date on happenings through our communication tools. Thank you for being part of our SCS family.

Have a good evening from all of us at SCS where we practice the 4C’s—Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Community.
