Weekly Message–January 14-18, 2019

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your weekly message for the week of January 14.

Report Cards

Report Cards went home with students Friday. Please make sure that you have reviewed the important documents in the report card envelope and send the signed envelope back to the homeroom teacher.

Benchmark Assessments

Mid-year Benchmark assessments will be given starting this week. Please help our students by making sure they get plenty of rest and a good breakfast. Remember that all students have access to free breakfast in our cafeteria between 8:30 – 9:00 each morning. You will receive the results of your child’s benchmarks.

Ms. Sims’ PE Classes

Ms. Sims’ students will have PE this week and will complete their first mile of the new year on Thursday and Friday. Please come dressed appropriately with proper shoes, clothing for the weather, water bottles, and medication if you need it.

PTSA Meeting

Join us for our monthly PTSA Meeting Thursday, January 17 at 5:30 p.m.  Come hear how our PTSA is impacting our school and how you can get involved. There’s room for everyone’s contribution, no matter how much or how little time you have! This is also a great time to meet other parents. Refreshments will be served.

Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday

Mark your calendars for Monday, January 21. School will be closed in recognition of the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday.

Prospective Parent Open House

We will hold an information session for prospective families Thursday, January 24 at 6:00 p.m. This is for parents who would like more information about our school before submitting their lottery applications. Please pass the word along to those in your networks.

Magnet Lottery

Parents, a reminder that if you have a sibling who you wish to attend our school, the sibling must be entered into the DPS magnet lottery and linked to the current student in the online lottery application. Siblings are only eligible for priority seating if SCS is first choice in the lottery selection and if the sibling resides at the same address as the current student. A seat must be available in the grade applied for to receive priority seating. The DPS magnet lottery can be accessed online at  https://www.dpsnc.net/ and the deadline is January 31, 2019 at 5:00pm. Please contact our Magnet Coordinator, Dr. Rita Rathbone with questions related to sibling priority seating.

SCS T-shirt Orders

The new SCS T-shirt designs are ready to be ordered!!!!  Please check the PTSA website and flyers that will come home for ordering and pricing information. Additional order forms may be picked up in the main office.

Social Media Communication

Have you checked out my blog lately? I post our Daily Announcements there so you can hear what the students hear and may not pass along to you. Clubs are starting back up and we have added some new ones! There are many scholarship opportunities available! I also post opportunities that are too lengthy to read on the Sunday Message or the Daily Announcements. Remember to check us out on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. You just might catch a glimpse of your child during the school day!

Have a good evening from all of us at SCS where we practice the 4C’s—Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Community.
