New Announcements for Students

There will be NO Photoshop tutoring TODAY. Ms. Hinton will be available every day next week until 5:30 p.m. for tutoring to help any remaining students who need to catch up in her class.


The School for Creative Studies is on Instagram! Follow us at SchoolforCreativeStudies or scan our nametag on the school’s website. On Friday, December 14, one of our new followers will be chosen at random for a giftcard. So get your friends, family, and teachers to follow us on Instagram.


Hey, do you like movies? Well, come on down to the GSA’s movie night! We’ll be watching Love, Simon on Wednesday, December 12 afterschool in the Cybrary. Bring cash for pizza and popcorn ($5) and your PJ’s and blankets to change into if you want to get comfy. Middle schoolers, pick up a permission slip from Ms. Street. High schoolers don’t need one. See Ms. Street or Christophe with questions. All are welcome.


Middle School Student Council will NOT meet TODAY or next week. We will resume regular operation after return from break. Details will be provided after we get back!


Recurring Announcements for Students

Attention High Schoolers! All students interested in Student Council should come to the Student Lounge during lunch on Friday, December 7. We will elect our officers during this time and discuss our first project. Contact Mr. Richardson with any questions.


In middle school news, Ms. Shelly’s 7th grade homeroom keeps the Box Tops trophy! They had the most Box Tops turned in for the month of November! The high school Box Tops trophy will have a new home this month! Mr. Pantoja’s 12th grade homeroom turned in the most Box Tops for the month of November! Congratulations!


Teachers and staff if you are donating or letting us borrow Christmas lights and decorations for Winter Formal, please bring them on Thursday. Please also label your items so we can get it back to you on Monday.


The SCS Vocabulary Bowl Club will have an interest meeting on Monday, December 10, 2018, from 4:15- 4:45. If you are unable to attend the interest meeting, please see Ms. Williams in Room 228 between 10:00 and 10:15 AM TODAY or Friday, December 7.


Students, the Winter Formal is only 2 days away & the tickets are here. If you purchased a ticket or would like to purchase one please see Coach Barnes today. Remember the cost goes up to $30 at the door.


Jr. YMA will be hosting a clothing drive. This is the season for giving, so in that spirit, if you can spare any new or gently used items to help keep someone less fortunate warm in these cold days, then please donate. We are asking for items such as coats, jackets, gloves, scarves, etc. Please see Mr. Marshall if you have questions.


Keep our Earth healthy! Students & staff are reminded to recycle & terra-cycle using the available bins in the front lobby and the cafeteria. Students remember to collect your items from lunch and recycle them too! Some example items for collection are:

All bottles & caps from mouthwash & deodorant

Aluminum & plastic drink pouches with straws or spouts

Winter Concert (Showtime) will be held TODAY in the café. Music of Passion Fruit, Up and Atom, Jessica Herman, Keshawn Holloway, managed by Reyes.


Any Seniors applying to NC State, UNC-Chapel Hill, or UNC-Greensboro please see Ms. Settle about the Aubrey Lee Brooks Scholarship which provides $12,000 annually toward your tuition. Information can be found on the High School Resource Wall.


High School Seniors looking for an affordable career training option after graduation should consider applying to Duke Ophthalmic Technician Program. You can become a Certified Op Tech in under one year and you can apply for financial aid through your FAFSA application. See the High School Resource Wall for more information. This program has 100% job placement following the completion of all certification requirements.


Any senior who has been admitted to any college or university or enlisted in the Armed Services, please see Ms. Settle.


NC State will hold their annual VET Day for aspiring veterinarians on December 8 from 10 – 3:30. Registration must be complete by November 30 to participate in this FREE event. See the high school resource wall for more information.
