Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your weekly message for the week of November 26.
Middle School Classroom Bees
All middle school English Language Arts classes will hold their classroom Spelling Bees the week of December 3. The winners of these bees will go on to represent their classes at our school level Spelling Bee to determine our school representative for the DPS Bee.
SCS Music WinterFest and General PTSA Meeting
Plan to join us for our Live Music Performance Winter Program and General PTSA meeting on Thursday, December 6—5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Mr. Evans will provide Music students with directions, but the program will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m. The SCS community is invited to attend to support our students’ work as they perform for us on this evening. Dinner will be served and you’ll be able to hear from our PTSA officers. We’re looking forward to an aMazing evening!
We will administer benchmark assessments during the week of December 10. These assessments include reading and math for grades 6 and 7; reading, math and science for grade 8; and Biology, English II, Math I and Math III for high school. We will operate on a EOG/EOC schedule during this week. We will use the results of these assessments to plan future classroom instructional planning and to develop lunch, afterschool, Saturday and intersession intervention time as necessary for students. Please encourage students to do their best.
Freshman/Sophomore Winter Formal
The 2018 Freshman/Sophomore Winter Formal hosted by the Prom Committee/YMA will be held December 8 in the gym from 7:00 – 11:00 p.m. The cost is $25 per person. Light refreshments will be served. You must be a freshman or sophomore to purchase a ticket, but you may invite an upperclassman.
Parents and students, did you know that you can start practicing now for the ACT? In February 2019, all 11th grade students will take the ACT. You and your child can visit https://academy.act.org/ to start preparing for this exam now.
End of the Quarter/Intersession Information
The 2nd quarter ends on December 14 which means that there are three weeks remaining in the quarter. Please ensure that you are checking your child’s grades in PowerSchool and asking about assignments. Students also should be attending tutoring sessions with their teachers if necessary. Teachers have been in contact with you if they think these are necessary.
Keep in mind that Monday, December 17 has reverted to a Teacher Workday and there will be no school for students. The winter intersession for students is December 17 – January 4. Teachers will not be available during the break, so make sure that you are proactive in communicating with them now! This is also important for seniors who are completing college applications…don’t wait until the last minute to ask for transcripts and letters of recommendations!
Have a good evening from all of us at SCS where we practice the 4C’s—Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Community.
