Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your weekly message for the week of November 19.
Thank you to all of the student and parent volunteers that came out to help make the SCS Fall Carnival today a success!
Student Climate Survey
Students in grades 7 & 11 will take our annual Student Climate Survey this week. This survey is anonymous and we use the results to plan programming to improve our school climate.
5 and Below Fundraiser
Parents, this week only, stop by and shop at 5 and Below in Durham’s New Hope Commons Shopping Center. With the SCS flyer, 5 and Below will donate 10% of our supported sales all this week to SCS. This includes Black Friday shopping the day after Thanksgiving! If your child did not bring home the 5 and Below flyer on Friday, they should have it on Monday. If you need an extra copy, they will be available at SCS’s front office desk.
This is the last week for Spanish tutoring. Spanish I students will receive tutoring on Monday and Spanish II students will receive tutoring on Tuesday. Both sessions last until 5:00 p.m. Any student who can benefit from the extra help in Spanish, please attend. See Mr. Castro with questions.
Senior parents, this is a reminder that caps and gowns can be ordered online at Jostens.com. They will need to search for School for Creative Studies or they can visit https://tinyurl.com/yatz7lw6
Graduation packets went home with students last week. Parents please make sure you ask your senior for this information if you haven’t seen it.
Freshman/Sophomore Winter Formal
The 2018 Freshman/Sophomore Winter Formal hosted by the Prom Committee/YMA will be held December 8 in the gym from 7:00 – 11:00 p.m. The cost is $25 per person and your guest must be a current student in DPS high school. If you are bringing a non-SCS student, then you must get a permission slip from Coach Barnes or Ms. Street and it must be returned by Tuesday. Light refreshments will be served. You must be a freshman or sophomore to purchase a ticket, but you may invite an upperclassman.
Parents and students, did you know that you can start practicing now for the ACT? In February 2019, all 11th grade students will take the ACT. You and your child can visit https://academy.act.org/ to start preparing for this exam now.
School will be closed Wednesday – Friday this week to celebrate Thanksgiving. We’ll see all students back at school Monday, November 26.
Have a good evening from all of us at SCS where we practice the 4C’s—Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Community.
