New Announcements for Students

NC State will hold their annual VET Day for aspiring veterinarians on December 8 from 10 – 3:30. Registration must be complete by November 30 to participate in this FREE event. See the high school resource wall for more information.


Congratulations to Nico Salvador-Vazquez on his admission to North Carolina Central University.


Any senior who has been admitted to any college or university or enlisted in the Armed Services, please see Ms. Settle.


Recurring Announcements for Students

Any students who participated in or signed up for the Blood Drive, please see Dr. Rathbone if you did not get your concert tickets.


Attention MathCounts members: Our next meeting is Tuesday, November 20 in Ms. Long’s room. Please come ready to work.


A representative from Salem College will be on campus during high school lunch on November 20.


Students: there are a lot of lost items that have been turned in to Lost & Found. These items will be donated after November 20. If you lost or misplaced an item, please come by Student Services and claim anything that is yours. Again, we will be discarding and/or donating anything that remains after 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20.


Attention Seniors: If you are interested in applying to NC Central University, they have waived the application fee for Durham County students until November 16. Please see Ms. Settle for the link for the free application.


There will be student PTSA meetings Thursday and Friday during lunches. These meetings are to prepare for the fall carnival on Sunday Please meet with Ms. Purnell-Mitchell in the Student Lounge during lunches on Thursday and Friday.


The deadline for bringing a guest to the Winter Formal is quickly approaching. You may get a permission slip from Ms. Street. The deadline is Tuesday, November 20.


Keep our Earth healthy! Students & staff are reminded to recycle & terra-cycle using the available bins in the front lobby and the cafeteria. Students remember to collect your items from lunch and recycle them too! Some example items for collection are:

Family-size, individual & multipack snack chip bags

–Toothpaste tubes/caps, Toothbrushes, Floss containers, Outer packaging for all

On Sunday, November 18 from 2 – 5 pm, SCS will be hosting a Fall Carnival! This is a family and community event! We will have activities, inflatables, games, prizes, candy, food and even a haunted house! The cost to enter the carnival is $5 ($3 for kids 6 and under). The activities and games, with the exception of concessions and the haunted house, are included in the price of admission. Come spend a fun afternoon with your family and us!


Jr. YMA and YMA members: The deadline for your dues is quickly approaching. Please see Coach Barnes as soon as possible with your dues.


All Seniors, please continue to check the High School Resource Wall and Ms. Settle for scholarship opportunities.


The 2018 Freshman/Sophomore Winter Formal hosted by the Prom Committee/YMA will be held December 8 in the gym from 7:00 – 11:00 p.m. The cost will be $25 per person and your guest must be a current student in high school.  If you are bringing a non-SCS student, then you must get a permission slip from Coach Barnes or Ms. Street and it must be returned before Thanksgiving Break.  Light refreshments will be served. You must be a freshman or sophomore to purchase a ticket, but you may invite an upperclassman.
