Weekly Message–September 24-28, 2018

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your weekly message for the week of September 24.

Student Ambassadors are leaders and representatives of our school. They must be students who routinely model the 4C’s and the Habits of Mind as well as strong character. Students in the program will engage in leadership development and gain skills that benefit them in college and in work. All HS students are invited to apply for SCS Student Ambassadors through this online application. The new deadline is October 16. http://tinyurl.com/SCSabassador

Each year we make every effort to include all students in our testing administrations. This is important to ensure all students have information about their achievement and their growth for the school year. Including all students is necessary for school accountability reports to accurately reflect the performance of the school as a whole. SCS did not meet the 95% testing participation rate requirement for the Biology EOC and ACT test administrations. As a result of falling below the testing participation requirement, we have created a plan of action to ensure that moving forward there will be full participation from all student groups at our school. You will receive a letter in the mail this week detailing this plan. If you have any questions, contact Ms. Tuck Thomas, our testing coordinator.

If your child is attending the Gryphon Grind Intersession Camp, it begins tomorrow!  Dates of operation are September 24 – September 27 and October 1 – 4. The hours are 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. daily.  Breakfast, lunch and transportation are provided. Mr. Dixon called families Friday afternoon with bus route information. If you still need assistance with bus information, please contact the main office Monday after 8:15 a.m.

All students selected for Drivers’ Education class were contacted directly by the DPS instructor. Drivers’ Education classes dates are Tuesday, September 25 – October 4. Times are 8:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. daily. Transportation and meals are NOT provided for Drivers’ Ed.

Fencing Club will begin after intersession.  We will meet on Monday’s beginning October 22, the Monday AFTER we return.  See Mr. Hartwell if you have questions.

I know that everyone is excited about our first intersession break. Intersession dates are September 24 – October 12. Students return to school to begin the 2nd quarter on October 15. The main office will be open during normal hours through October 4. We will be closed October 5 – 12.

Remember that learning never  ends so continue to keep your skills sharp during break by reading or using the instructional tools we use at school to practice concepts.

Have a safe, restful break from everyone at SCS where we practice the 4 C’s—Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Community.
