Weekly Message–April 30-May 4, 2018

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your weekly message for the week of April 30, 2018.

AP Exams are quickly approaching for our high school students enrolled in these courses. Students must participate in pre-administration sessions this week with Ms. Tuck Thomas to prepare their test documents. Students should listen carefully to all morning announcements and information given out by your teachers in class.

May 4 is our 1st Official Senior Signing Day! We invite all students, parents, and community members to come out and celebrate our seniors as they move on to college and the Armed Services. The event will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the gym.

Juniors and Seniors, can you believe the Prom is less than a week away? The last day to purchase a ticket is Wednesday, May 2. Please see Coach Barnes or Ms. Street for any last minute questions.

Due to low sales, the yearbook for this year will not be published.  Strawbridge is in the process of refunding online orders.  All monies payable to SCS will be refunded over the coming weeks in the form of a check.

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 7-11.  We are seeking parent volunteers on Thursday, May 10 to help the administrators with lunch duties so teachers may have a duty-free lunch. The last date for all clubs will be May 18.  No clubs will meet after this date.  Please plan accordingly.

We’re less than a month away from state testing. In preparation for testing, as our testing is done online, we will begin to collect student laptops on May 7. Most students will test May 24 – May 31.  All teacher-made and district Spanish exams will be given May 31 – June 6. Some students with accommodations may have an altered schedule in order to meet their needs.  We are always in need of proctors.  If you or someone you know are available to assist please contact our volunteer coordinator, Anita Neville in the main office.  There are morning and afternoon volunteer opportunities available.

Mark your calendars for our annual Honor Roll Breakfast on Tuesday, April 24. Middle school students will be honored at 9:15 a.m. and high school students will be recognized at 10:30 a.m.  Parents and families are welcome to attend. We will recognize students who have earned A and A/B honor for any quarter and those students who have perfect attendance for the entire school year.

The DPS SPRING ART SHOW 2018 is still underway through April 30 at Northgate Mall. Please visit to view the art panels featuring art projects completed during the 2017-2018 academic year for each school.  Free and open to the public.

All senior parents please continue to encourage your student to make sure Mrs. Settle receives all college acceptance letters and any scholarships awarded to your student.  If your student plans to attend college next year it is important to remember to complete the FAFSA and Residency Determination applications.  If you need any help with these documents please contact Mrs. Settle.  Finally, SCS will be hosting our 1st annual Senior Signing Day for all students who have accepted admission to a college/university or enlisting in our U.S. Military after graduation.  This event will be held on May 4th at 2pm. We would love to have our student’s family and community members attend.
