New  Announcements

Attention to any student interested in attending the College Fair, there have been some changes. The College Fair will run in the small gym for seniors from 1:20 – 2:15, Juniors and Sophomores will run from 2:15 – 2:50 and Freshmen will run from 2:50 – 3:20.


Drama Club will meet today from 4:15 to 5:15  in Mr. Britt’s room (205). New high school members are always welcome to attend.


The Ethics Bowl is back at it! Meeting today in Ms. Stefan’s room from 4:00 to 5:15


GSA  is cancelled today. We will meet Monday of next week from 4:00 to 5:00 in Ms. Stefan’s room.


Recurring  Announcements

There will be a Prom Meeting Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during high school lunch.


There is a YMA meeting on Wednesday, January 31 from 4:00 – 5:15 p.m.


Karaoke Friday will be this Friday, February 2 and the theme is girl groups vs. guy groups.


SCS is hosting a College Fair on Tuesday, January 30 from 1:20 – 3:00 p.m. for all high school students in the small gym. UNC-Greensboro, NC A&T, Louisburg College, and Meredith College will be here on campus. Also, Catawba College and Campbell University will be participating and will offer onsite admissions for seniors. To participate in onsite admissions, you must complete the application prior to attending the College Fair.


10 people have lost their jackets and need to stop by the Guidance Office to pick them up from lost & found. 5 people have lost their lunch boxes; they also need to stop by the Guidance Office to pick them up from the lost & found. Please come with a pass.


Durham Public Schools is offering all high school seniors an opportunity to apply for the Dorothy Heatherington Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1000. All applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.75.


Any high school senior who has applied to N.C. State University, UNC-Chapel Hill, or UNC Greensboro with at least a 2.75 GPA, please consider applying for the Aubrey Lee Brooks Scholarship. This scholarship can award students with up to half the cost of their undergraduate education and also provides a stipend to purchase a computer. Applications are due by January 31. See Ms. Settle for more information.


Seniors with accounts or have parents with accounts at State Employees’ Credit Union, please see Ms. Settle to get information about the $10,000 People helping People Scholarship. Applications are due to Ms. Settle by February 15.


The SCS Yearbook for 2017-2018 is now for sale. Yearbooks can be purchased in the form of check, cash, or online. All purchases made by January 31, 2018 will receive the discounted rate of $35. For an additional $5, you can have your yearbook personalized. The ordering envelopes have been passed out. See the envelope for more details for check and online purchases.
