New Announcements

The middle school at SCS is excited for the return of the National Geographic Geography Bee.  Students who have won their grade-level competitions will advance to the school-wide bee for the rescheduled date of Thursday, January 25 at 9:30 a.m. in the cafeteria. Parents and your guests are invited to attend the Bee to cheer on our students.

There will be a YWA/Jr. YMA meeting on Wednesday, January 24 from 4:00 – 5:15 p.m. Please be dressed and this meeting is mandatory.

All YMA officers will meet with Coach Barnes today during high school lunch.

Prom Committee meeting will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during high school lunch.

Karaoke Friday will be this Friday, January 26th during your lunch periods. The cost is $2 per song.

Durham Public Schools is offering all high school seniors an opportunity to apply for the Dorothy Heatherington Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1000. All applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.75.

Durham Public Schools is also offering the Rachel Lawrence Scholarship to all high school seniors in the amount of $3000. All applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Any high school senior who has applied to N.C. State University, UNC-Chapel Hill, or UNC Greensboro with at least a 2.75 GPA, please consider applying for the Aubrey Lee Brooks Scholarship. This scholarship can award students with up to half the cost of their undergraduate education and also provides a stipend to purchase a computer. Applications are due by January 31. . Seniors with accounts or have parents with accounts at State Employees’ Credit Union, please see Ms. Settle to get information about the $10,000 People helping People Scholarship. Applications are due to Ms. Settle by February 15.

Current members of YWE please meet tomorrow after school in Ms. King-Limmitt’s room. Prospective members, please bring your application to Ms. King-Limmitt by Friday, January 26.

The GQSA will be holding its regular meeting after school today, in Ms. Stefan’s room.

Congratulations to our Ethics Bowl team on our first ever competition in the National Ethics Bowl! We were only one of 3 schools representing DPS at the Regionals competition this past Saturday on UNC-Chapel Hill campus.

Out of 22 teams, most of whom had competed before, we were first-time attendees and secured 6th place!

Warmest congratulations for our incredible team: sophomore Tobiah Morrison-Danner, junior Ally Van Sickle, and seniors Nya Furtick, Ryan Rogers, Kierston Deck, and Chaunessy Pierce. You’ll find us proudly wearing our Ethics Bowl t-shirts today.

The Culinary Club will meet this Wednesday in Ms. Laws’ room from 4:15 – 5:00 p.m. Please make sure transportation is available by 5:00 p.m.

Recurring Announcements

The SCS Yearbook for 2017-2018 is now for sale. Yearbooks can be purchased in the form of check, cash, or online. All purchases made by January 31, 2018 will receive the discounted rate of $35. For an additional $5, you can have your yearbook personalized. The ordering envelopes have been passed out. See the envelope for more details for check and online purchases.
