New Announcements:

Seniors interested in representing SCS at the Project Graduation board meeting on January 16 at 6:00 p.m., please see Ms. Settle. DPS students will have an opportunity to contribute their ideas and suggestions on ways to make this event better. The meeting will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church.


Seniors, please make Ms. Settle gets a copy of all college acceptance letters.

Recurring Announcements: 

The Young Women of Excellence will receive applications for new membership now through Friday, January 26th. If you are interested, please contact Ms. King-Limmitt for details.


Interact Club will NOT meet this week or next week. We will resume meetings on Thursday, January 25th. There will be a Board Meeting this Thursday, January 11th in Wash’s room.


The Equestrian Club will meet on Friday, January 12 from 4:15 – 5:00.  New members are welcome. Join us for a fun craft and to plan our spring trail ride. Please have your ride here promptly at 5:00 p.m.


Keep our Earth healthy! Students & staff are reminded to recycle & terra-cycle using the available bins in the front lobby and the cafeteria. There are many items for collection. Please check Ms. Price’s blog for the complete list. Here are a couple of featured collection items.

All brands hair, skin, cosmetics: all bottles, caps, tubes, sprays, triggers, jars, lip balm tubes, All make-up containers, eye/lip pencils, etc.

This February, Durham Public Schools is offering A.C.T. Prep Classes for Juniors. Classes will be held at Southern HS on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00-7:00pm and at Hillside on Saturdays from 9:00-12:00pm. Cost is only $20 for 12 hours of instruction. A registration form can be found on the DPS website at www.dpsnc.net  or students can pick one up in the guidance office. Limited space is available.


Scholarship Opportunity for All Seniors—

State Employees’ Credit Union is offering a $10,000 scholarship to 8 graduating seniors in Durham Public Schools. Qualified candidates must have an account at SECU or a parent with an account, must be accepted into a NC public university, be a US citizen, and have a GPA of at least a 2.5. All interested students should see Ms. Settle for information on the application process. Applications are due February 15, 2018.

The Jackie Robinson Scholarship for Minority Students provides up to $30,000 over 4 years! Please see Ms. Settle for more information. Applications are due February 1, 2018.


The SCS Yearbook for 2017-2018 is now for sale. Yearbooks can be purchased in the form of check, cash or online. All purchases made by January 31, 2018 will receive the discounted rate of $35. For an additional $5, you can have your yearbook personalized. The ordering envelopes have been passed out to students. See the envelope for more details for check and online purchases.
