Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your weekly message for the week of January 8, 2018.
Middle school students will receive new schedules in homeroom on Monday morning. These schedules will reflect their 2nd semester electives. Seventh & eighth grade Students may request a change through Friday by completing a Schedule Change Request Form. These forms may be picked up and returned to the main office and must have a parent signature.
Ms. Hockett, art teacher, resigned to take a position in Wake County. I have made a recommendation for the position and the new art teacher should be starting soon. I’ll formally introduce him when we receive a start date from our Human Resources Department.
Report cards will come home with students on Friday, January 12. Remember to review all contents of the envelope and return the envelope signed.
Parents: we are having our first SCS Career Fair in February. Are you interested in volunteering your time? If so, the requirement is for you to setup a booth in our gym and speak with students as they visit your table concerning requirements/skills needed for your vocation. Parents and guardians of 2018 graduating seniors: Student names have been submitted to Josten’s for diploma printing. A senior packet was sent home with your child containing important information and requesting the top page be returned with any name changes. As of today, we have not received the information from everyone. In the event your child’s name is misspelled on the diploma and the information was not returned, you will be required to pay a fee if you would like a new diploma printed. If you did not return your form and need a name correction, please contact Ms. Vanessa Barnes as soon as possible.
Parents: This February, Durham Public Schools is offering A.C.T. Prep Classes for Juniors. Classes will be held at Southern HS on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00-7:00pm and at Hillside on Saturdays from 9:00-12:00pm. Cost is only $20 for 12 hours of instruction. A registration form can be found on the DPS website at www.dpsnc.net or students can pick one up in our guidance office. Limited space is available. For more information, contact the Community Education office at 560-9488.
Remember to mark your calendars for Monday, January 15th. School will be closed in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday.
