Attention Juniors & Seniors—You have a very important email in your DPS account from the Prom Committee!!! 


Do you remember Prom Fridays last year? Do you remember hitting Ms. Price in the face with a pie? Well, we are bringing Prom Fridays back starting this Friday with SCS Karaoke during your lunch. For $1 you can request to hear a song. For $2 you can sing a song from the catalog. Sing alone, sing with a teacher or sing with a friend!


If you have lost something, please stop by the Guidance Office with a pass.  We have lots of jackets and lunch boxes that have been dropped off. 


Attention SCS Gryphons!!!! Are you interested in learning more about airplanes, gliders, drones, unmanned aircraft or space travel? Would you rather just be a passenger or do you really want to fly? If you answered yes, please come to the front office for more information about the Gryphons Aviators Club beginning in January, 2018.

YMA will meet Thursday, December 7th until 5:00 p.m. 


Prom tickets will go on sale next week during our flash week sale. Tickets will be $55 all week through Friday, December 15th. Regular price is $65 and this will be the sale price starting on January 8th when we return from intersession. See Coach Barnes for any questions. 


Keep our Earth healthy! Students & staff are reminded to recycle & terra-cycle using the available bins in the front lobby and the cafeteria.

Mr. Castro is again offering tutoring assistance to high school students enrolled in online Spanish courses on Saturday, December 9, 9-12.  If you are interested in this service, you must sign up with Mr. Castro by Wednesday, December 6th. Parents must provide transportation on Saturday. 


Durham County Office of the Sheriff has partnered with Durham Public Schools to collect canned food December 4-15 for the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. Our SRO, Deputy Ferrell, will be the point of contact at SCS. See Deputy Ferrell, Ms. Price’s blog, or get a list from the main office of the most needed items. Boxes are located in our front lobby. Thanks in advance for your support!


Prom Committee will meet everyday this week in Room 120 during high school lunch. 


The Equestrian Club will meet on Friday, December 8 from 4:15 – 5:00 p.m.  Join us for a fun horse craft and other activities. Everyone is welcome. Please have your ride here at 5:00 p.m. See you there! 


The PTSA is extending the dates for the men’s clothing drive into January. This is to support the Urban Ministries of Durham which is in very short supply and receives very few donations of men’s clothing. Please drop off your donations to the SCS front lobby during office hours.


We are teaming with Barnes & Noble Southpoint again this year for our annual Winter Bookfair on Friday, December 8th. Join us beginning at 7:00 p.m. for performances by Rock Band, Guitar Class, Digital and Live Production classes, Dance and Art Clubs. We will also have student artwork displayed. Homeroom teachers are distributing vouchers for your use. Present these vouchers when you shop between December 8 and 13, and a portion of your purchases will be donated back to our PTSA. 


The SCS Yearbook for 2017-2018 is now for sale. Yearbooks can be purchased in the form of check, cash or online. All purchases made by January 31, 2018 will receive the discounted rate of $35. For an additional $5, you can have your yearbook personalized. The ordering envelopes have been passed out to students. See the envelope for more details for check and online purchases.
