The Culinary Club will meet this Wednesday, August 30 in Ms. Bouck’s room #103 from 4:15 until 5:00. Please make sure transportation is provided by 5:00 p.m.

A representative from Durham Tech’s Center for Global Learners will be on campus on Wednesday, August 30 from 3:00 – 4:oo p.m. in the Student Lounge.  This program helps international and first generation students gain access to necessary resources to continue their education after graduation. If you have any questions, please see Ms. Settle in Student Services.

The quarterly PBIS celebration is on the way! If you do not receive OSS, Saturday detention, before or after school detention until the end of the quarter, you may attend.

The classroom portion of Driver Education will be offered at SCS September 27, 28, 29 and October 2, 3.  Class hours are 8:30 – 3:00 each day.  You must provide your own transportation, arrive on time, attend all hours of class, and have a ride at 3:00 each day.  No exceptions will be made.  You will also need to provide your own lunch/snacks each day  If this class does not suit your personal schedule, please do not register for this class.  

You must be 14 1/2 on September 27, and you cannot be 18 years of age or older to enroll in the class.  

The cost of the class is $45 and must be paid on the first day of class. Only cash or money order can be accepted. 

This class has a 45 student maximum and students will be selected by lottery. All students wishing to be selected for this class MUST register for the lottery in the main office of SCS between September 11 and September 15.  Lottery registration hours are 8:45 – 3:45 each of these days. The lottery closes at 3:45 pm on Friday, September 15. 

The lottery will be drawn after school on Friday, September 15 and notifications will be made via text or call and a list will be posted at school Monday, September 18.  Students must reply to the notification by Tuesday, September 19. A second lottery will be drawn if spots are not accepted by students drawn in the first lottery. 

If you are chose in the lottery for this class and are not at SCS at 8:30 on Wednesday. September 27, your seat will be given away to a student selected for the stand-by list.

Attention all high school students, if you are taking an AP class, plan to take the PSAT, SAT, or ACT, you need to have a signed fee waiver on file with Ms. Tuck Thomas.  Please make sure that you get these signed and returned by August 31st.  Fee waiver forms are available outside of Mrs. Tuck Thomas’ office in the guidance suite.  These will also go home with progress resorts.

There are a very few spots left for the Costa Rica trip this Spring.  This promises to be a memorable trip filled with lots of adventure.  Don’t miss your chance to join some classmate as you kayak, zip line and white water raft in the wilds of Costa Rica.  The final date for registration is Sept. 22.  If you have any questions, contact Ms. Wash in room 208.

Has anyone noticed that SCS has an art gallery right here in our school? Ms. Courtney is seeking a Junior Curator to help her run the Miniature Gallery of Contemporary Art and get the ball moving! The Junior Curator will help organize exhibitions, frame artwork, maintain the gallery, and operate the social media page. This opportunity is open for 8th – 12th graders. Please stop by the art room, located directly in front of the cybrary, for an application. The application deadline for this opportunity is August 30th.

Jr. YMA will host a Back to School Dance on September 8, 2017 after school in the gym.  Then dance is for middle school students only. The cost of the dance is $5 and the dance will end promptly at 6:30 p.m.  You can purchase your tickets from Coach Barnes or at the door.

Attention Juniors & Seniors: if you are interested in joining the Prom 2018 Committee. Please see Coach Barnes or Ms. Street. We have to plan for new for the prom and we need your support and efforts. Prom Committee will meet during high school lunch in the Cybrary.
