Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your weekly message for the week of August 28, 2017.
Attention all high school students, if you are taking an AP class, plan to take the PSAT, SAT, or ACT, you need to have a signed fee waiver on file. Please make sure that you get these signed and returned by Thursday. Fee waiver forms are available outside of Mrs. Tuck Thomas’ office in the guidance suite.
If your child receives free/reduced lunch, you must complete an application each year. If you have not completed a new application this year, please make sure that your child picks up an application from the cafeteria or the main office and return it right away. The carry over grace period from last school year has now expired, and students will have to pay if they do not have an approved application on file. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. White, our Child Nutrition Manager.
If you were unable to attend AIG Night, your child’s Differentiated Education Plan will be sent home. Please review it and return it signed. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Tuck Thomas.
School will be closed on Monday, September 4th for the Labor Day holiday.
Jr. YMA will host a Back to School Dance on September 8, 2017 after school in the gym. Then dance is for middle school students only and will end promptly at 6:30 p.m. The cost of the dance is $5. You can purchase your tickets from Coach Barnes in advance or at the door the day of the dance. If there is enough interest, there will be a high school dance after intersession. High school students can show their interest by signing up on their homeroom teachers’ doors.
The classroom portion of Driver Education will be offered at SCS September 27, 28, 29 and October 2, 3. Class hours are 8:30 – 3:00 each day. You must provide your own transportation, arrive on time, attend all hours of class, and have a ride at 3:00 each day. No exceptions will be made. You will also need to provide your own lunch/snacks each day. If this class does not suit your personal schedule, please do not register for this class. You must be 14 1/2 on September 27, and you cannot be 18 years of age or older to enroll in the class.
The cost of the class is $45 and must be paid on the first day of class. Only cash or money order can be accepted.
This class has a 45 student maximum and students will be selected by lottery. All students wishing to be selected for this class MUST register for the lottery in the main office of SCS between September 11 and September 15. Lottery registration hours are 8:45 – 3:45 each of these days. The lottery closes at 3:45 pm on Friday, September 15.
The lottery will be drawn after school on Friday, September 15 and notifications will be made via text or call and a list will be posted at school Monday, September 18. Students must reply to the notification by Tuesday, September 19. A second lottery will be drawn if spots are not accepted by students drawn in the first lottery.
If you are chosen in the lottery for this class and are not at SCS at 8:30 on Wednesday. September 27, your seat will be given away to a student selected for the stand-by list.
Mark your calendars for the next Early Release Day which is September 20. School will be dismissed at 2:00 p.m. Please make your transportation and child care arrangements now. Also remember that our first intersession is approaching. The first quarter ends Friday, September 22. Students will be out of school September 25 – October 13. We will return on Monday, October 16 to begin the second quarter.
Did you know that we post the morning announcements (the same ones that the students hear) on my blog every morning? Click on the Principals’ Blog link on the scs.dpsnc.net website to check it out.
Have a great evening from all of us at SCS where we practice the 4c’s—Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, and Community.
