Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your Weekly Message for the week of June 5, 2017.
Wow…it’s hard to believe that this is the last week of school! Our last day of school is Friday, June 9th. School will be dismissed at 2:00 p.m. and report cards will be sent home with students. As always there will be important information included in the envelopes with report cards so be sure to review all of the contents. This year, student’s individual score reports will be included in report cards and not mailed.
Information regarding summer school and the Take Two summer programs will be coming home this week for those students who qualify. If you have questions regarding either program, you may contact me.
Seniors—your graduation day is about a week away! All seniors should now have all information and materials for graduation. If you have any questions about graduation, please contact Ms. Barnes. To commemorate this achievement, Strawbridge will be taking pictures of seniors as they receive their diplomas. Parents, you have the opportunity to purchase these pictures. Prepaid envelopes went home last week. Extra envelopes are located in the main office. You may also order these pictures online. All of the information you need for online ordering is listed on the envelope. Please contact Ms. Bridges if you have any questions about day of pictures.
Seniors—PTSA is hosting a senior picnic for you on Wednesday, June 7 from 12:15-1:20. Please see Mr. Dixon or Ms. Betts on Monday for details to place your order for your lunch. You may want to bring your lawn chairs and blankets so that you may enjoy your lunches outside on Wednesday.
Yearbooks are arriving this week. If you would like to purchase one, the cost is $40. Cash and checks are accepted. Checks should be made to Strawbridge Studios. Be sure to include your child’s name and grade level on the outside of the envelope. Please contact Ms. Bridges if you have any questions.
Our annual Student-Staff Basketball Games will be held this week. The middle school game will be June 7 and the high school game will be June 8 after 2:00 p.m. If you are interested in playing with the staff or volunteering, please contact Coach Barnes
Durham County Library’s Summer Reading Program begins on June 17 and will go to August 12. You can register for Summer Reading online or at your local library, starting June 1st! If you go online to register, go to the Durham County Library homepage and there will be a link to the Summer Reading website there. When you register, please remember to include your school to help us win the school competition. The school with the most improved participation from last year will win a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) kit. These kits will be awarded at the beginning of next school year. The more you read, the more points you earn for prizes and for your school. Remember, you can also read away your fines at the library through the Summer Fine Read Down. During the summer, visit the Durham County Library to participate. You will have $1.00 in fines removed for every 10 minutes you read at the library.
The North Carolina School Boards Association, under the direction of The Durham Public Schools Board of Education wants to hear from you about your priorities as they search for our next superintendent. Parents of 6th graders: Please take note of immunization requirements that will impact rising 7th grade students. Students entering 7th grade are now required to have one dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccine and one dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine for individuals who have not already received those vaccines. You will have 30 calendar days from the first day of school to provide the required up-to-date immunization record for your child.
This will be my final whole school message for the school year. Enjoy your summer and we’ll see you next month!
