Weekly Message–May 22-26, 2017

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your Weekly Message for the week of May 22, 2017.

Attention Senior Parents: It’s May, which means it is time to make decisions about where your students intend to enroll in college next year. Whether they are planning to go into community college or a four year institution: housing applications should be filled out, intent to enroll should be communicated, and in some cases class registration is already in progress. If you need help navigating this process please contact Ms. Huth, our college advisor. She is here to help. You can reach her by e-mail at lindsey.huth@dpsnc.net or by phone at SCS Wednesday – Friday.

Seniors do you need graduation announcements?  The cost is $1 for each announcement.   Also, tickets for graduation and a packet of information were distributed on Friday. If students did not receive theirs, they may pick them up on Monday. Lost tickets will not be replaced. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Barnes.

The last day for clubs is Wednesday, May 24.

Our first group of middle school students will be inducted into the National Junior Honor Society on Wednesday, May 24th at 6:00 p.m. in the Cybrary.

Parents of 6th graders: Please take note of immunization requirements that will impact rising 7th grade students. Students entering 7th grade are now required to have one dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccine and one dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine for individuals who have not already received those vaccines. You will have 30 calendar days from the first day of school to provide the required up-to-date immunization record for your child.

We will start state testing on Friday, May 26th.  If students are present at school each day, then most will have completed all of their required assessments by June 2nd.  A calendar has been posted on the school website and my blog for your planning purposes. We are also still in need of proctors. If you have any time available especially during our high needs days May 26-June 2, please contact Ms. Bugg by email at bonita.bugg@ dpsnc.net or call the main office.

Remember that school will be closed on Monday, May 29th in observance of the Memorial Day Holiday.

Have a great evening from all of us at SCS where we practice the 4c’s—Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, and Community.
