Weekly Message–May 15-19, 2017

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your Weekly Message for the week of May 14, 2017.

Mark your calendars for the Honor Roll Breakfast on Wednesday, May 17th. MS—9:15 a.m., HS—10:30 a.m. All students who have made the A or A/B Honor Roll for 1st, 2nd or 3rd quarter are invited. Invitations were sent home with students this week.

Due to lack of participation, we are canceling Senior Night on May 16th. If you paid for tickets, Ms. Barnes will contact you and your money will be refunded.

We will induct our first group of National Junior Honor Society members from qualified 7th and 8th graders very soon. Applications are due on May 15th and students and parents will be informed of application status on May 17th. The NJHS Induction Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, May 24th at 6:00 p.m.

Box Tops are due Friday, May 19th.  Please label your bag or envelope containing your box tops with your name and the name of your homeroom teacher and turn them in.  This will be the final collection for this year.   The homeroom that turns in the most  boxtops for the entire year will win a pizza party.  Any student who turns in a total of 100 boxtops for the entire year will also get to attend the pizza party.

The 3rd Annual End of the Year Banquet for Young Male Achievers which will held on Friday, May 19th at the Double Tree By Hilton on 4810 Page Creek Ln. The cost is $40 per person and the attire is Black Tie. If you are interested in attending please contact Coach Barnes.

Attention Senior Parents: It’s May, which means it is time to make decisions about where your students intend to enroll in college next year. Whether they are planning to go into community college or a four year institution housing applications should be filled out, intent to enroll should be communicated, and in some cases class registration is already in progress. If you need help navigating through this process please contact Ms. Huth, our college advisor. She is here to help. You can reach her by e-mail at lindsey.huth@dpsnc.net or by phone at SCS Wednesday – Friday.

Last day for ENCORE! Afterschool Program is May 18th. Last day for clubs May 24.

Coach Barnes will be testing all 8th grade students and Seniors who have not passed or taken the CPR First Aid requirement by the State in order to graduate. All seniors who have not taken or passed CPR will need to see Coach Barnes by May 16th. If you are unsure whether or not this applies to you please see Ms. Fleming and she can inform you. The dates will be May 21st-23rd and you will be required to be there all 3 days. The times will be announced.

Parents of 6th graders: Please take note of immunization requirements that will impact rising 7th grade students. Students entering 7th grade are now required to have one dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccine and one dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine for individuals who have not already received those vaccines. You will have 30 calendar days from the first day of school to provide the required up-to-date immunization record for your child.

We will start state testing on May 26th.  If students are present at school each day, then most will have completed all of their required assessments by June 2nd.  A calendar has been posted on the school website for your planning purposes.

Have a great evening from all of us at SCS where we practice the 4c’s—Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, and Community.
