Weekly Message–May 1-5, 2017

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your Weekly Message for the week of May 1, 2017.

Thank you and congratulations to our PTSA officers for the 2017-2018 school year. Ms. Danielle Bonner, parent of a rising 7th grader, will serve as our president. Ms. Carolyn Kreuger, parent of a rising freshman and senior, will serve as our vice-president; and Ms. Valerie Parham, parent of a rising 7th grader, will serve as our secretary. We are still in need of a treasurer. There are also many opportunities to get involved by serving on various committees. If you are interested or need more information, please contact one of the PTSA officers or me.

We’d like to welcome back Ms. Taylor who will return tomorrow!

AP exams begin this week and run through May 12th. Please take note of your assigned exam dates/times. If your AP exam is scheduled for 8:00AM, you must arrive by 7:45AM to be seated.  You must be here on the day you are scheduled. There are no make-ups for these exams and SCS does not provide transportation.   Please mark your calendars and make transportation arrangements now.

Reminder that spring spirit wear and senior t-shirt orders are due May 2nd. Turn in your order forms and money in the main office.

All students in grade 7 through high school have received the Passive Parent Permission slip to participate in the Comprehensive Health Education presentation that will be conducted by the Durham Health Department on May 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 8th, 2017. If you have any questions, contact Ms. Sims.

Seniors received invitations for our first Senior Night last week. Remember that tickets for this event must be purchased by May 4th. If you have questions, please see Ms. Barnes.

We’re excited to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week this week. Help us celebrate our wonderful staff by participating in our Teacher Appreciation Week activities.   Wednesday, May 3rd is our Staff Appreciation Breakfast and donations are needed. The Staff Appreciation Luncheon is on Thursday, May 4th and we need parents to help us supervise lunches so teachers can have a duty free lunch. On Friday, May 5th, we are holding a staff Egg Hunt and need prizes. Look for the emailed Sign-up Genius links and the flyer in the report card envelopes to see how you can contribute.

Laptop collection to prepare for testing will begin on May 8th. Teachers will be preparing lessons that do not require technology. We wanted to inform you of this change so that you are aware.

Mark your calendars for the Honor Roll Breakfast on Wednesday, May 17th. MS—9:15 a.m., HS—10:30 a.m. All students who have made the A or A/B Honor Roll for 1st, 2nd or 3rd quarter are invited. Look for invitations to come home soon.

BoxTops are due Friday May 19th.  This will be the last collection of the year.

Parents of 6th graders: Please take note of immunization requirements that will impact rising 7th grade students. Students entering 7th grade are now required to have one dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccine and one dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine for individuals who have not already received those vaccines. You will have 30 calendar days from the first day of school to provide the required up-to-date immunization record for your child.

Have a great evening from all of us at SCS where we practice the 4c’s—Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, and Community.
