Weekly Message–January 30-February 3, 2017

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your Weekly Message for the week of January 30, 2017.

The bookfair is here! Students are coming in to the book fair through their English Language Arts classes, but it is open to everyone all week with extended hours on Thursday for the Family Night. You may also purchase online. We ask that you pass along the link to people you know because the proceeds from the online version of the sale benefit our school just as much as the physical sale (the money will be split between the Cybrary and the PTSA).Thanks in advance for your support.

It’s already time to start planning for the SCS/EFTours trip for the Spring of 2018. We will head to Costa Rica for a 10 day adventure tour that promises to be exciting and educational. This trip is loaded with outdoor activities like kayaking, zip-lining, and white water rafting. There will be an interest meeting on Wed. Feb. 1 at 5:30 in the Cybrary. EFTours is offering a discount to travelers who register by Friday Feb. 10, so don’t miss your chance to get the best deal for a trip that you won’t forget. If you have any questions, contact Ms. Wash by email, phone, or in person.

Parents of students in Coach Barnes’ PE classes: students will be running the mile on Tuesday, January 31st. Please make sure that you bring your sneakers, dress appropriately for the weather, and have any asthma pumps or medication if necessary.

Mark your calendars and plan to join to us February 2 from 6:00- 7:30. We will have a PTSA General Meeting, College Night for 9th-11th grade families, Art Night with original art for all families and our SCS Bookfair with extended hours this evening for everyone. A special invitation goes out to our seniors—we would like you to attend to create artwork to be put on a tile for the Senior Tile Wall. We’re planning an afterschool movie activity and will be selling Chick-fil-A dinners to make attending easier for families. Flyers will come home with students Monday!

Reminder that yearbooks are on sale. Cost is $35 until January 31—that’s Tuesday! Starting on February 1st, the cost is $40. Senior Ads are available for purchase and the deadline is also January 31st.

But…if you’re planning to attend Family Night on February 2nd, you can purchase at yearbook for $35 and still get your senior ad.

YMA and Jr. YMA are hosting a Valentine’s Dance on February 10th. The middle school dance is 4:00-6:00 p.m. The high school dance starts at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 9:00 p.m. High school students are allowed to bring a guest from another DPS high school only if they have the approved consent form signed by two references and turned in to SCS by February 6th. You may pick up a consent form in the main office. The cost of the dance is $5 for SCS students, $8 for non-SCS students, and $2.50 for 6th graders. If you have any questions, contact Coach Barnes.

Have a great evening from all of us at SCS where we practice the 4c’s—Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, and Community.
