Weekly Message–December 12-16, 2016

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your Weekly Message for the week of December 12, 2016.

Benchmark assessments will be given Monday and Tuesday of this week. Reading, math and 8th grade for middle school will be assessed. High school students who are enrolled in Math I, English II and Biology will also take benchmarks.

7th and 11th grade students will be taking a district Student Climate Survey this week. This is a short survey designed to assess students’ perceptions on various aspects of their school climates.

We hope to see you all this Friday, December 16 for SCS Night at Chipotle and Barnes and Noble at Southpoint Mall. Proceeds will support our PTSA. I will be at Barnes & Noble from 6-8 and we will hold a short PTSA meeting at 7:00 p.m. We will also have some student artwork on display.

The ENCORE! Afterschool program, which is managed by the DPS Community Education Department, is a high quality afterschool program held right here at SCS daily until 6:00 p.m. Transportation is not provided, but it is a great resource if you are looking for educational support and activities for your 6th – 9th grader afterschool. We have some great things to offer the students next semester, including robotics, computer literacy, coding, STEM projects, outside resources, celebrations, homework assistance and teen initiatives. We have scholarships available for any students who apply so it will be free of charge. Please pick up an application from the main office or Room 120. See Ms. Fuller, ENCORE! Manager, if you have any questions.

The last day of the quarter is Friday, December 16th. Students and teachers will begin intersession break and the office will be closed starting on December 19. The office will reopen on January 3rd. Students and all teachers return to school on January 9th.

Have a great evening from all of us at SCS where we practice the 4c’s—Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, and Community.
