Weekly Message–November 28-December 2, 2016

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your Weekly Message for the week of November 28, 2016.

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday. We have so grateful to be able to work with our students every day and for the parents who send them to school each day prepared to learn. It’s hard to believe but there are only three weeks until Winter Break and the end of the 2nd quarter. Do you have your PowerSchool parent portal access so that you can regularly check your child’s grades? If not, stop by the main office with your ID to receive your log-in credentials and directions.

Middle school students will take their mid-year i-Ready assessments in reading and math during the first week of December. Benchmark assessments will be given the week of December 12th.

Parents of Seniors—we need your input about the location for graduation. We will send the link to the survey home with your senior. I will also post it to my blog. Please take a look and give us your feedback by December 9th.

Our PTSA will continue to receive checks from Amazon due to your shopping at AmazonSmile. Please continue or consider using AmazonSmile when you shop at Amazon for your holiday gifts.

Save the date – Friday December 16 SCS Night at Chipotle and Barnes and Noble at Southpoint Mall. I will be at Barnes & Noble from 6-8 and we will hold a short PTSA meeting at 7:00 p.m. We also hope to have some other student activities planned. As these are confirmed, we’ll let you know. I look forward to seeing many of you there!

Have a great evening from all of us at SCS where we practice the 4c’s—Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, and Community.

Weekly Message–November 14-18, 2016

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your Weekly Message for the week of November 14, 2016.

Progress Reports went home with students last Thursday. Please make sure that you have received and reviewed these with your child and return the progress report envelope signed.

This week is College Application Week and an awesome opportunity for students to apply to several colleges free of charge. Ms. Huth and some of the high school staff have put together a great week for the seniors, where they will have plenty of time to apply for schools and scholarships! We would love for all high school students to participate in the associated spirit week to support them in this exciting endeavor. Activities include visits from college representatives, assistance for students with their applications and essays, and much more. Students received flyers last week so they know how to participate.

Our next PTSA Dine-Out Event will be November 15th at Pomodoro’s on Hillandale Rd. We will receive a portion of the proceeds from meals eaten anytime during the day, so have lunch or dinner and support SCS!

Middle school students will take their mid-year i-Ready assessments in reading and math during the first week of December.

Our PTSA just received a check for over $30 from Amazon due to your shopping at AmazonSmile. Please continue or consider using AmazonSmile when you shop at Amazon for your holiday gifts.  Thank you!

Did you know that our kids have been voting? That’s right…through the Kids Voting program, our SCS students have been casting their ballots too. High school students voted last week and middle school students will vote tomorrow.

We’re excited to be inducting our first group of high school Juniors and Seniors into the National Honor Society this Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. in the Cybrary. Anyone is welcome to come see these students receive this great honor.

Progress Reports will go home with students on Thursday, November 10th.

The decision has been made to allow High Schoolers to play sports at their base schools. This applies ONLY to our high school students and students may ONLY play at their base schools. Transportation will NOT be provided. Parents are responsible for transportation to all practices and games. Students are responsible for work they miss. If any students are interested, please see me.

We are still accepting new applications for our Orlando College Tour! Students must be in grades 9 – 11 to apply. The trip will be from April 3rd – April 8th, 2017 and will include 11 different colleges and a trip to Universal Studios. Don’t miss this awesome opportunity! College Application Week – Coming Soon

Taking place November 14th – 18th!

This is an awesome opportunity for students to apply to several colleges free of charge, and for us to promote a college going culture here at SCS. We currently have 55 seniors which means it is absolutely possible for them all to apply to college. Whatever their ultimate decision, we want to make sure every student has college as an option available to them, whether it be through a 4-year university or a technical path at community college.

As such, some of the high school staff and Ms. Huth have put together a great week for the seniors, where they will have plenty of time to apply for schools and scholarships! We would love for everyone to participate in the associated spirit week to support them in this exciting endeavor.
