Weekly Message–July 18-22, 2016

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your weekly message for the week of July 18, 2016.

Welcome back to the opening of the 2016-17 school year! We know that students are excited and anxious about the first day of school. We will have staff members and student ambassadors available to assist students with getting to their classes when they arrive and assisting them with changing classes throughout the day. For students who have bus questions, we will call students at designated times to work out any bus issues and communicate with parents to ensure that all students know their transportation arrangements. For students who have scheduling issues, we will have staff members available to assist them also. Our goal is to make sure that students have as smooth an opening as possible!

For parents who will be dropping off in carpool, please pull into the front parking lot and follow the directions of the staff members on duty. Mornings are usually not hectic, but there is a long line in the afternoons and we appreciate your patience and cooperation in moving traffic along to minimize everyone’s time in line.

Elmo’s Diner First Tuesday Event is scheduled for July 19th. This is an honor for SCS, as Elmo’s is very selective and we had to apply for the slot. We hope to see you at Elmo’s diner on July 19th where a portion of the proceeds will be donated back to our PTSA. http://elmosdiner.com/

We are having a Back to School Spirit Wear sale.  All orders are due Wednesday August 3rd. This will be the only chance this year to have this many choices of designs, colors, and styles. You can find the link to the order form on my blog or the SCS PTSA webpage. You can find both from the SCS webpage…scs.dpsnc.net.

Please mark your calendars for our Annual Curriculum Night and General PTSA Meeting on August 11th from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. This is our first PTSA meeting of the year and you will have an opportunity to follow your child’s schedule and meet all the teachers to hear about their plans for the school year.

Students must have a locker and returned their signed technology agreement before being issued a laptop. For new students or students who need to purchase a lock, locks cost $10. Teachers have copies of the technology agreement. The Technology Handbook can be found online at the SCS website. If you would like a hard copy, please notify your child’s homeroom teacher.   Sixth grade laptops have been ordered but have not been delivered yet.

Get lots of rest and have a great evening from all of us at SCS where we practice the 4c’s—Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, and Community.
