Weekly Message–April 25-29, 2016

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your weekly message for the week of April 25, 2016.

Pomodoro Italian restaurant is hosting SCS Family Day on Tuesday, April 26th.  SCS PTSA will receive a portion of the daily proceeds.  Please consider having lunch with friends or dinner with family in support of SCS PTSA.

Please mark your calendars for this Wednesday—It’s a PLC Early Release Day and School will be dismissed at 2:00 p.m.

It’s not too late to see the DPS Artwork Showcase at Northgate Mall. SCS parents and students can see our artwork displayed at Northgate mall until Wednesday, April 27th.

Ms. Hundredmark, assistant principal, has asked me to pass along that she has resigned to pursue exciting career opportunities out of state. As a founding staff member of SCS, we appreciate all of her dedication and hard work and wish her all the best. Mr. Dixon and I will take over her duties for the remainder of the school year.

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 2-6. We have lots of activities planned for the teachers including a PTSA sponsored breakfast on Wednesday, May 4th and a school-sponsored luncheon on Thursday, May 5th. We would love to have help with donated items for the breakfast.  You may sign up to bring items here: http://www.signupgenius.com/index.cfm?go=s.signupform

We would also love to have parents assist us with coming in to do lunch duty on Thursday, May 5.  Sign up here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0d49a4ae2aab9-cafeteria

PTSA asked the SCS staff to complete a survey at the beginning of the school year.  The results may be useful as you think about appreciation gifts.  You can access this survey here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LOGDwKmO_HGYvJEYXWyZ7uXqSG-CwV3VEKOjVdJUspQ/edit#gid=0

Progress reports go home with students on Friday, May 6th.

The Annual Awards Breakfast will be held May 19th. Middle School students will be honored at 9:30 a.m. and High School students will be honored at 10:30 a.m. Students will receive their invitations this week! Parents are invited to join us for breakfast as we celebrate the hard work of our students!

Due to the upcoming end of year testing, we have to collect student laptops to prepare them starting on Monday, May 16th. Students need to make sure they have saved any work necessary from their school computers and turn in any work that needs to be turned in electronically before the date given by their teachers. Any assignments that need to be completed or turned in via the computer after that date, will need to be done on a computer outside of school. The daily schedule for testing is posted on my blog. Please take a look if you would like to know what day specific assessments will be given.

We will need approximately 30 testing proctors per day May 31 through June 3. Proctors must arrive for training by 8:45 and be prepared to stay for up to 3.5 hours of testing. Please contact Bonita.Bugg@dpsnc.net by email, call the school, or sign up on the school webpage or my blog to volunteer.

Have a great evening from all of us at SCS where we practice the 4c’s—Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, and Community.
