Drivers Education Classes Scheduled for November; Sign-up Oct. 19

After much uncertainty surrounding the state budget, finally we can report that funding was restored and drivers ed classes will continue this fall. Mark your calendars and set your alarm for Oct. 19 at 12:01 a.m. That’s one minute after midnight on Oct. 19 when registration opens for classes that begin Nov. 2.

NC State Women and Minority Engineering Programs

The Women and Minority Engineering Programs cordially invites students and their parents to learn more about the world-class engineering and computer science programs offered at NC State. You’ll meet current students, faculty, and advisors (including me!) and get lots of useful information on degree programs, scholarships, study abroad and Co-op opportunities.

If you can’t join us on October 2, a similar session will be held from 1:30PM – 4:00PM on October 30. 

The event runs from 1:30PM – 4:30PM in Engineering Building II, Room 1231 on Centennial Campus. Register today as space is extremely limited. Register at o.ncsu.edu/engr-reception-wm

School Picture Re-Takes

Strawbridge will be here this Thursday for students and staff who need a portrait re-take. If you missed portrait day or want to re-do your photo, visit the small gym during your lunch. This Thursday to have your portrait taken. Order forms are available in the main office.

Boxtops for Education

We will be collecting boxtops after fall intersession. Please label your bag or envelope containing your box tops with your name and the name of your homeroom teacher and turn them in by October 23rd, which is the Friday after we return from intersession.

All students who turn in boxtops by October 23rd will be entering into a drawing for prizes.  The homeroom that turns in the most boxtops for the entire year will win a pizza party.

You may also turn in your Coke caps and Campbell’s labels during this time.

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 23rd. This is a PLC Early Release Day and we will dismiss students at 2:00 p.m.

This is a reminder to 6th grade parents that English Language Arts is concluding the unit on “The Giver” in Ms. Gray’s class, therefore; students need to return their movie permission slips to Ms Gray  no later than Tuesday—that’s tomorrow– in order to watch “The Giver” movie.

The week of September 21st, information for DUKE TIP will go home with students who qualify for the 7th grade talent search. The application is due by October 1st for the December SAT or ACT test sessions. Specific instructions on what parents need to complete will be sent home with applications. Parents may also complete the application online by visiting: http://www.TIP.DUKE.EDU/ENROLL. However, you may need key information that can be found in the application that your child may bring home. Science Under the Stars at Duke on Wednesday, September 23rd at Duke French French Family Science Center from 6-8 PM.

Fee waiver forms for AP, ACT, and SAT assessments were sent home August 21st. We need these back for 9th –11th grade students even if you don’t qualify for the waiver.

We will administer the ACT EXPLORE (8th grade) and PLAN (10th grade) assessments on October 21-22, 2015. More information will be sent home with students the week we return from intercession. You will also be able to find information on the AIG website.

The 1st nine weeks ends on Friday, September 25th. Intersession runs September 28-October 16. Intersession is also a break for the teachers and they will be unavailable during this time. Students return to school on October 19th. Report cards will go home with students on October 23rd.
