Weekly Message August 31-September 4, 2015

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your weekly message for the week of August 31st.

“Here Comes the Bus” is a new application that DPS is using and provides up to the minute information about the location of school buses on their routes. Instructions for signing up are provided on our website, my blog, and Facebook.

Our first intersession runs September 28-October 16. Students return to school on October 19th. At this time, we only have 5 students registered for the College Prep Camp. We must have at least 22 students registered to offer this camp. The camp has been opened for 8th graders as well. So, students in grades 8-11 may attend. If you are interested, please see Ms. Huth as soon as possible. We would hate to cancel this awesome intersession opportunity.

6th grade parents, score reports from the Cognitive Abilities Test were sent home with your child today. Please ask him/her for it. There are important steps that you can take to learn more about your child’s learning needs. Please check the bottom left corner of the score report for your child’s learning profile, then visit http://www.cogat.com. You will be able to enter their learning profile for more detailed information. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Tuck Thomas.

High school parents, it’s never too early to start thinking about college! With that in mind, we have several assessments available throughout the year through College Board to help your child prepare.  Letters were sent home with students today about fee waivers that may be available to you to assist with payment.

We must have this information on file for all students regardless if they meet criteria for a fee waiver or not. This information will also be used to confirm eligibility for fee waivers on the SAT for any student who registers.

The cost to take the PSAT on October 28th is $15.  Payment must be made to The School for Creative Studies by September 11, 2015.  Students may turn in payment to Mrs. Tuck Thomas our AIG/AP Coordinator.

Have you checked the AIG website lately? If you do not have the QR code or tiny URL that was provided during Curriculum Night or that was attached to your child’s DEP, then please visit the SCS website. Click on Parent Resources then the link for Academically and Intellectually Gifted.

Mark your calendars for September 7—Labor Day, No School. September 23rd is an Early Release Day. School will be dismissed at 2:00 p.m.

Have a great evening from all of us at SCS, where there is no box.
