Weekly Message May 18-22, 2015

Our Annual SCS Fest will be held May 19th at 6:30.  We will begin with our last General PTSA meeting of the year in the cafeteria and then have an opportunity to see all of the amazing projects our students have created.

I have some exciting news about next school year. As you may already know, we currently share space in our school with a program run by the Hospital School. This program is being reorganized and will join SCS as an exceptional children’s program class under my leadership beginning in July. This is great for us because it will allow us to grow into our entire school space and will provide additional resources for our school. If you have specific questions, please contact me or see me after the PTSA meeting tomorrow night.

We begin testing Thursday. On each morning of testing, students will report to the cafeteria (if they eat breakfast) or to the gym instead of going directly to homerooms. We do this because the students cannot enter testing sites until the test session begins. We will organize students and they will move through the halls only with their grade levels. Please help students by ensuring they are getting plenty of rest and a good breakfast. Also, reassure them that they have been well-prepared for testing and we are all confident that they will do well!

The Advanced Academics Department will offer one more informational session for students and their parents to learn about the Credit by Demonstrated Mastery process.  Credit by Demonstrated Mastery (CDM) is a process for earning credit for a high school course by demonstrating a deep understanding of the content without course enrollment or seat time. Informational Sessions will be held at the Staff Development Center on Tuesday, May 19, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

CDM applications are due to schools by May 29, 2015.   To learn more about CDM and download a student application, please visit http://cia.dpsnc.net/cdm. The SCS contact for this process is Ms. Tuck Thomas.
