Weekly Message March 9-13, 2015

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your weekly message for the week of March 9th.

Our next scheduled Saturday Academy session will be a make-up session on March 14th from 9-noon. Transportation will be provided as usual for this date. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Ellison.

Please note that March 11th is no longer a PLC Early Release Day. We will have a normal school day on March 11th.

Middle School Students–We still have a couple of spots for each intersession camp remaining. If you are interested in the YES Robotics Camp or the Literacy Through Photography Camp, this is your last chance! Please bring your forms to the main office tomorrow!!! Transportation and lunch are provided for both programs.

We are excited to be one of the schools selected to pilot a new real-time bus tracking program for our families. The transportation parent portal allows parents, guardians, or other designated members of your household to get real-time access to your child’s bus location at any time during the morning or afternoon bus route. The information has been sent home with students. If you have questions, please contact Ms. Fleming.

Advanced Placement students are encouraged to register for the District Review Sessions scheduled for April 11 and April 25 at CMA.  Registrations should be completed this week!  The registration link can be found on my blog, Facebook, and our website.

8th grade students and parents: You are invited to attend High School 101—Graduate Ready on Saturday, March 21st at Riverside High School from 9-noon.  Come hear information about what to expect in high school, graduation requirements, advanced academics, fine arts, and much more. Get excited and start preparing for high school now!

Middle and High Schoolers of SCS will be interacting with the Family Resource Center of Raleigh, Inc. (http://frcofraleigh.org/).  They have been authorized by DPS to come in and administer the Comprehensive Health Education portion of Healthful Living Curriculum through their Youth Awake program.  The comprehensive presentation is age and grade appropriate.  This required content curriculum is covered under Durham Policy 3020.  Students will bring home permission forms concerning the Comprehensive Health Education program.  If you wish to remove your student from this portion of the Healthful Living curriculum, you will need to sign and date the document stating that you wish your child to be Opted-Out of this portion of Healthful Living.

The SCS PTSA will be hosting a luncheon for the SCS Staff on St. Patrick’s Day Tuesday March 17th. We will have a salad and baked potato bar.  The PTSA will provide lettuce and baked potatoes.  We are asking for your help to provide the sides, toppings and extras. You can send in your items with your child and leave them in the office. THANK YOU in advance for supporting our staff and letting them know how much they are appreciated.  There is also a sign-up genius link on our website and on my blog.

It’s registration time at SCS! Students in all grade levels will be registering for courses for the 2015/2016 school year over the next two weeks. You should have received detailed information regarding course selection. Please read over this information carefully with your student and be certain to sign and return completed registration forms no later than Friday, March 20, 2015.  Any questions may be directed to Mrs. Brown or Ms. Hagan.

Parents of rising 9th, 10th and 11th grade students please plan to attend the SCS High School Parent Information Night on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 6:00pm. You will have the opportunity to gain important information regarding course offerings, registration and graduation progression before signed registration forms are due. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Brown.

If you requested transportation for your high school student following tutoring sessions, we will be in touch with route information when we receive it from the Transportation Department. Transportation services will begin after intersession on April 13th.
