Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price your weekly message for the week of October 27th.
This week is Spirit Week. We had a great Wacky Tacky Day today. We enjoyed seeing all of the creativity from the students and staff.
Tuesday: Twin Day (Find a partner and create a creative twin combo)
Wednesday: School Colors Day (To be perfectly accented with the hat of your choice for $1)
Thursday: Character Day (Be your favorite literary/film/mythological character)
Friday: Halloween costumes
*On no day is it permissible to wear a mask of any kind, and the DPS dress code applies.
Show your grade level’s competitive best through spirit week penny wars! Starting Monday each grade level will have a jar in front of the main office. Each penny gains a point for your grade level. All nickels, dimes, quarters, and bills will subtract points from a grade level. Which grade level will collaborate to outwit all others and be champions of the penny wars?! All funds will go toward the SCS scholarship fund.
We are still excited about our partnership with Sister Cities of Durham and the student exchange with Zhuzhou (pronounced Joo-Joe), China. During our intersession break, Ms. Street, Ms. Towns, and Ms. Wash traveled to China to beginning planning the exchange. We would like to invite a group of students from Zhuzhou #8 School to visit Durham in April. We are making plans for SCS students to travel to China in Oct, 2015. The trip is open to current 8th, 9th, and 10th grade students and promises to be an exciting learning opportunity. The city of Zhuzhou will be covering many expenses, so the trip will be very affordable for our students. Please join us for an information session for parents and students, October 28th at 5:30pm in the cybrary at SCS.
As chilly weather is fast approaching, the SCS PTSA and Guidance staff is sponsoring a winter coat drive. Please consider helping local students by donating gently used coats and jackets. Donated items may be delivered to the guidance office at SCS. Thank you in advance for your generous donation.
PTSA is sponsoring our first Dinner Dance on Saturday evening at Pantajali’s Place, 700 Foster St. All families are invited to dinner from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Cost for dinner is $6.00 per person. The dance is for high school students only and will run from 8:30-10:30 p.m. Admission for the dance is $5.00. If you attend the dinner, you may attend the dance for free!
Have a good evening from all of us at SCS, where there is no box!
