Junior Designer Programs at Amplify (6th & 7th graders)

Junior designer programs are great ways for students to learn new math skills, enhance their communication skills, gain exposure to possible careers in design and programming, and have an impact on math lessons that will be taught in classrooms.

Our current programs are aimed at 6th and 7th graders; however, we may have opportunities in the future for 8th graders as well. When students want to get involved in the program, parents can email me at this address, and I will provide registration paperwork.

All the programs are free and students are compensated for their participation. Students of all math capabilities are encouraged to join. Let me know if you still have any questions concerning the programs! Here is the list of upcoming programs:

PTSA Meeting–September 2nd!

Tuesday, September 2nd

The School for Creative Studies Parent Teacher Student Association will hold their first meeting on Tuesday, September 2nd at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria. We invite anyone interested in joining the PTSA to attend. We will take nominations and hold elections for our executive board members. Currently we have Tanika Martin running for vice president, Denise Robinson running for treasurer and Kelly Hammer running for secretary. Anyone interested in serving as president, vice president, secretary or treasurer should email their name and contact info to Christine Hendren at christineohendren@gmail.com. We are also looking for any and all parents willing to serve on a committee or volunteer any amount of time in order to support our wonderful teachers. The committees we had last year were: Hospitality, Fundraising, Membership, Community Outreach and Special Programs. We are open to new ideas as we start this school year and continue to grow our PTSA. We hope that you will join us Tuesday when we will begin to plan our year in support of The School for Creative Studies!

Interact Club–New Opportunity

If you are in grades 8, 9 and 10 there’s an exciting new club at SCS called Interact.

Interact is about students taking action internationally and locally.

SCS Interact Club will be the FIRST in a Durham Public School and is sponsored by Rotary International.

Come and find out about taking part of something big.

The information session is Wednesday, September 17 in the Cybrary. We will meet from 4:15 – 5:15pm. Parents are welcome!

Weekly Message–August 18-22, 2014

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your weekly message for the week of August 18th.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, August 20th is a Teacher Workday. There is no school for students.

Progress reports will go home with students on Thursday, August 21st.

On August 21, 2014 from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM, SCS will host Instructional Support Services night. This event will include the annual AIG meeting and a session for parents with students who are a part of the Exceptional Childrens’ Program.  The SCS Guidance Department will have a session on meeting the social and emotional needs of exceptional learners. Since we have students who receive services through more than one program, we have structured the event so that parents can attend both sessions. Afterwards, we hope that you are able to attend our PTSA meeting beginning at 6:30 PM.

Students previously enrolled in the spring France/Italy trip as well as new 8th/9th/10th grade students who have qualified and wish to enroll will have a meeting on Monday August 25th from 5:30-6:30 in room 235 (Ms. Turnwald’s class).  Students who are not yet enrolled will receive instructions for that procedure and all students will get information on course work and fundraising.  If you are enrolled or planning to enroll it is essential that you attend the meeting.

Yearbook Signing Party

Now you can re-experience last year and have a cold snack at the SCS Yearbook Signing Party on Friday, September 19th! Don’t worry if you forgot to order one, you are still in luck and can attend the party if you buy one! Extra copies are on campus and available to purchase for $40. Bring checks payable made to Jostens to the main office. You’ll be put on the list to attend the party. If you purchased one last year, you’re already on the list!
