We conducted our Quarter 4 Security Drill this morning. 3—7th grade classes and 1—6th grade class participated by walking through the school’s metal detector. If your child participated, he/she received a letter to bring home to you. All Durham Public Schools middle and high schools conduct these each quarter using randomly selected classrooms. This was not done in response to any incident and no inappropriate items were found.
Saturday Academy resumes this Saturday, April 26th from 9:00 – 12:30 p.m.
The DPS Summer Camp for Gifted students will be June 23-27 at Lakewood Montessori Middle School. Applications are available.
Please mark your calendars for the Advanced Academics Expo on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the Staff Development Center. This event will be held 5:30-7:00 p.m. and is designed for parents and community members. The Advanced Academics Expo will showcase products produced by students enrolled in the DPS Academically Gifted Program and highlight enrichment opportunities available for students enrolled in Durham Public Schools.
On April 28 & 29, all students will be completing integrated benchmark assessments designed specifically for our school. We call these Common Formative Assessments. The data from these assessments will be used solely to provide teachers and students with feedback on student mastery of learning standards in all four core classes and inform future instruction. Students will not receive a grade for these assessments, but they must do their best because this helps us plan future instruction. These assessments will be given in students’ social studies classes.
